He Is Risen
I want to take some time to reflect on Easter and why I celebrate it:
Around 2000 years ago, Jesus was brutally flogged, mocked, and crucified.
During the three days which followed, it’s hard to imagine how his disciples felt. Their teacher, the very Son of God, died in the most horrific way imaginable. What were they to do now?
I can imagine in those few days the shroud of darkness that covered the world. It seemed as though death had won, and hope was lost.
But three days later, Jesus rose from the dead. And in so doing, he changed everything.
So often, I feel broken. My body is in discomfort, my mind wanders into dark places, and my soul lacks vigor.
These are reminders of my broken nature. And honestly, it’s hard to hold the weight of life on my shoulders.
But the good news is, I don’t have to anymore. I lay my burdens at the feet of Jesus, and trust in him to direct my paths instead of myself. This doesn’t “make life easy” and immediately solve problems like some tend to believe. On the other hand, I would say my life has become more challenging since fully coming to faith.
However, I rest assured that there is a greater reality awaiting me, the beauty of which I can’t comprehend with my limited mind. This comes with a deep sense of understanding of who I am and who I’m called to be. And it all points to Jesus, and more specifically, his conquering of the grave.
This is what Easter is about, and that is why I celebrate.
This is an important reminder for me; the beauty of the gospel and how it changes everything.
Moving forward, I plan to write posts which talk about more personal matters of my faith. It’s not always a pretty road, and I hope to connect with and encourage my brothers and sisters around the world.
As for those who have not given their life to Christ, I urge you to keep an open mind. You are called to something greater. The one who pulled me from the pit is extending his hand to you too, and I love you too much not to tell you the good news.
Keep making progress. Change for the better. Live the Heming-way.
God bless,
Trevor
