- nothing changes if nothing changes
nothing changes if nothing changes
Nothing changes if nothing changes.
If I continue doing the same things, the same results will follow. Same input, same output.
Seems simple enough, but this saying has been especially useful for me this past week. When I’m trying to stay disciplined, it can be difficult to remain consistent.
Let’s take an example from my everyday life: Reading a book instead of scrolling on my phone. This is something I actively try and do, but I find myself choosing the phone far too often.
In moments like this, I’ve began to remind myself, “nothing changes if nothing changes.” If I keep choosing to pick up my phone instead of my book, I won’t become a better reader. I won’t improve my focus. I’ll remain stagnant.
I’ve also been using this on some other habits this week. The one that comes to mind is reading Scripture, which is a top priority for me. Despite this, I’m constantly choosing less important things to do.
The input is reading Scripture, and the output is growing in my relationship with God. If the input is doom-scrolling, the output would be laziness and boredom.
Knowing that my inputs (what I do) directly affects my outputs (who I become) is pretty awesome. It gives me a sense of responsibility that wasn’t necessarily there before. It’s up to me to learn and grow, not anyone else.
This is what I’m going to focus on this coming week, and I recommend you give it a try too.
To the glory of the Father, in the name of the Son, by the breath of the Spirit.
God bless you,
Trevor
