For the past few years, I’ve been a pretty avid reader. While mostly into sci-fi and fantasy books, I also enjoy ones on history and religion.
Books are the epitome of written language. They contain the stories and ideas of millions of individuals, each with a different perspective on life. The words of these books not only spark curiosity, but they can change how you live.
Readers are becoming more and more rare in this digital age. I find myself scrolling on my phone and getting caught up in all the noise quite often. But the quiet times I get to read and simply enjoy a story are some of my favorite moments.
Yet it’s hard to find them. It’s so much easier to choose the instant gratification rather than sitting down and committing to 15 minutes of reading. At least, it’s difficult for me.
In this constant battle, I have to remind myself the joy I find in following and connecting with characters, analyzing and understanding the plot, and imagining and appreciating the setting.
I could write about this topic for a long time, but I urge you to try reading again. I loved reading when I was young but fell away from it for close to a decade. But these past few years I’ve gotten pretty consistent, and I highly recommend picking up a good book.
The key is to choose a topic or genre you enjoy. The last thing you want is to force yourself to read a book you don’t care about just because it’s popular or a certain genre.
Keep making progress. Change for the better. Live the Heming-way.
God Bless,
Trevor
p.s. keep an eye out for more Christian content. I’m thinking of making it a separate thing, but not sure yet. I’ll keep you updated.
