Here is the topic that’s been on my mind the past week:
As Christians, we are new creations. 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us this:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Since we have died to our old selves, we have also died to our old ways of thinking. This calls for a reframing of the mind.
But what does that mean? It means changing the “I have to do this” to a “I get to do this.” I know it sounds cheesy, but this perspective shift is vital. It puts gratitude high up on the list of importance, where it should be.
And when you’re operating out of a place of gratitude rather than entitlement, life goes a lot more smoothly, at least in my experience. Not only that, but there’s so much more joy in daily life when you acknowledge the blessings around you.
Here is a list of things I’m grateful for:
A God who loves me
roof over my head
healthy body
breath in my lungs
great community around me
The list could go on forever. But I think we often take these things for granted and don’t realize the miracles taking place around us. I urge you to create a gratitude list of your own, so you can reframe your mind in this way.
On a similar note, I often treat reading my Bible, praying, and spending time in Christian community like chores. I finish them for the day, then don’t worry about them until tomorrow.
This isn’t how it’s supposed to be. God constantly calls us to enter a deeper relationship with Him. And instead of just going through the motions, my focus this week is to understand what a blessing it is to have a Bible to read. In many parts of the world, believers don’t have that luxury.
It’s a blessing to live in a place where I can outwardly express my faith without being persecuted or even killed. It’s a blessing to have the ability to talk with the God of the universe through prayer whenever I want.
The point is, God has blessed me with so much. Yet I often feel like I don’t take advantage of these things.
Jesus has done everything for me, so doesn’t it make sense that I give everything to him?
I’m working on a really cool project that I think you guys will like. It involves creating a resource that clearly presents the Gospel for new believers or people curious about the Christian faith.
As I’ve said before, The Hemingway Post will continue to shift towards Christian topics. I created this newsletter to share what’s important to me, and I don’t plan on changing that.
That being said, if that isn’t your cup of tea, no worries. You can unsubscribe at any time, and I wish you the best of luck. However, I urge you to give it a chance before doing so.
Keep making progress. Change for the better. Live the Heming-way.
God bless,
Trevor
