Routine
This week, I’ve been considering the importance of having a routine in my life. I recently started a full-time internship, and so far, have liked the consistency it brings.
Now I’m sure it won’t be like that all the time, but as a whole it provides stability.
When I have extra time, I don’t know how to spend it. I generally do nothing and then regret being lazy. But if I do too much, then I tend to regret not resting. It’s a balance I’m not very good at balancing.
But when I have a consistent routine, I don’t have to think about as much. I get in a habit of doing certain things and don’t have to use as much brain power or make as many decisions that I otherwise would.
By knowing where I’m going to spend a majority of my time, it takes some weight off my back. And I find this to be true even when the actual routine may be stressful. It doesn’t make much sense, but to me, it falls more in the “controlled stress” bucket because it was part of my routine.
But I’ve met people who run off spurts of high motivation and times of doing nothing at all. And it works for some people. I also know more type A people who schedule out their days and organize everything to a T. And much of the time it works for them.
The key for me is finding the balance. I can sway one way at one time and then overcompensate and fall too far on the other side.
But so far, although it is very new, I am enjoying my new routine.
I urge you to consider this topic for yourself.
Grow in His grace. Be shaped by His hands. Walk the everlasting way.
God bless you,
Trevor
